2009 COLD WATER CLASSIC SANTA CRUZ 6 STAR WQS and PRO JR - YEOMANS WINS

11/8/09: San Clemente's Nate Yeomans Wins the 2009 6 Star Cold Water Classic at Steamer Lane. Nate moves into 8th place on the WQS and most likely a spot on the 2010 WCT. Congratulations Nate on your win today - but it ain't over til it's over - and with the last two 6 star prime events in Hawaii coming up - there still is potential for many scenarios. As its always tough to get a result at Haleiwa or Sunset, Yeomans will have to keep the fire alive.
Nate seems to win em on the West Coast the way Gorkin wins em on the East Coast and they ride the same kind of boards. Nate won on a roundpin Whiplash Mayhem shape. (he sprayed over the logos out of respect to his paying sponsor.)

Our soldiers fell today... Mason got underscored on the only barrels of the day, but probably wasn't going to make it anyway. James "Taipan" Wood didn't get the score at the end. Cory Lopez is still going on his Mayhem Shape and even more good news is we're showing a teaser of the 'best of' video tomorrow night.. so that should be fun. We're having a movie premiere Sat. night at Motiv in Santa Cruz for our upcoming DVD "What Really Went Wrong" - the very best of ...Lost videos '93-'99. There will be a half hour premiere version of the new video and some new clips of Mason Ho, who, along with James Wood will be attending the party. MOTIV 110 Pearl Aly Santa Cruz, CA 95060. 11/6/09: Contest is ON. Mason Ho wins the first heat of the day. James Wood made it to the round of 48 but just couldn't get the waves to advance. We couldn't see the webcast during his heat but according to Mark on Fantasy Surfer PT had one of the best one-liners when he said, "coming from deep inside, Wood."

11/4/09: Contest off today. Mason Ho surfs in the first heat when competition resumes.
The Oakley Pro Jr. was held though up at Waddell. Chase Wilson had a good first heat and surfed solid in his round of 32 heat also, but just couldn't get the score. It seems sometimes the judges just don't want you to make it anymore. Luke Davis surfed well and advanced into the quarters even with an interference. Also advancing into the quarters was Kolohe Andino riding his SCORCHER model. Kolohe made both of his heats in dramatic fashion with buzzer beaters to advance, almost giving Dino a heart attack both times.

11/3/09: Round of 96 today. Waves have been going off when the tide drops out to mid-tide with perfect conditions. Its been solid 4-6 feet all day sheet glass the first two days. James "Taipan" Wood advanced out of his first heat, while surfing the peeling righthanders just like it was home, Lennox Head. Cory Lopez advances on a left off Middle Peak in the last 10 seconds. Mason Ho, who won the Pro Jr last year, is there and looking for a win in the 'QS division this year. Unlike some Hawaiians, the cold doesn't faze Mason. He actually likes surfing in the cold and one time Dad trunked it in Ireland so it runs in the family. Mason's only fullsuit he brought was a 1.5 mil warriors wetsuit. We're not going to write anything substantial about the contest right now cuz we're too busy trying to finish our new movie "What Really Went Wrong" - basically the "best of" the first 6 ...Lost videos with some never before seen footage. Stay posted to see where or if we're going to have a premiere in Santa Cruz this weekend.
